Hi Rio Families and Community!
I am excited for my 5th year as Rio Middle/High School principal and entering my 13th year in education. I started my career as a special education aide, then became a cross-categorical special education teacher, dean of students, and now principal. My educational background includes an AAS, BAA, teaching certification, and Master's Degree in Educational Leadership with licenses in the following areas: #51 Principal, #10 Director of Curriculum and Instruction, #801 Cross Categorical Special Education. My educational philosophy includes meeting students where they are while embracing individual differences, fostering strengths, and building upon weaknesses. I believe in promoting independent work skills through hands-on, relevant learning experiences to develop lifelong learners and productive citizens.
This year at Rio Middle/High, we will focus on expanding our multi-year initiatives: Mental Health; Academic and Career Planning; Grading for Learning. We will also be working with our community to craft our district's Portrait of a Graduate. I love that our small school size allows staff to develop strong relationships with students and support their individual needs. We boast an expansive course offering list compared to our size which includes 4 UW Oshkosh CAPP classes, 6 AP offerings, 7 Madison College classes, and a broad range of electives in agriculture, art, business, computer science, FACE, music, Spanish, and tech. ed. Most of our students are also heavily involved with extracurriculars.
If you are a current member of our learning community, do not hesitiate to reach out to me. If you are interested in join our community and learning more about the Rio Community School District, also do not hesitate to reach out to me. We welcome all!
